In March, the Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM monitored 531 antisemitic incidents globally. This marked a daily average of 17.1, up 315% from the previous March.
More than two-thirds (78.5%) or 417 incidents involved Israel-related acts of antisemitism, a concerning rise that can be attributed to global expressions of anti-Zionism and the targeting of Jewish communities worldwide in the aftermath of Hamas' October 7th massacre.
The total included 45 acts of vandalism directed at Jewish institutions and private properties. In New York City, "Free Palestine" was spray-painted on a yeshiva. In Uruguay, a swastika was drawn on the National Teachers Union headquarters.
Of March's 531 recorded incidents of antisemitism, 90 (16.9%) took place on university campuses. At the Paris Institute of Political Studies, a Jewish student was prevented from entering a room, and as she was blocked they shouted " "Don’t let her in, she’s a Zionist.’’ At Manchester University in the United Kingdom, "K*kes Out" and "Up Hamas" were scratched into the walls of the Student Union.
The overwhelming majority of all March incidents, 454 incidents (85.5%), involved hate speech. In Saudi Arabia, a Jewish member of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom was repeatedly instructed by Saudi officials to remove his kippah. In Washington, DC, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused Israel of perpetrating a genocide from the floor of the US House of Representatives.
In addition, 8.5% of March incidents involved the use or threat of violence (45 incidents), including the attack of a French Jew leaving a synagogue in Paris and the stabbing of a Swiss Jew by a migrant who allegedly referenced Islamist ideology such as "Al-Aqsa" when carrying out his attack.
There were 2 new adoptions of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism across the globe. The State of Indiana became the 36th U.S. State to adopt the most widely-embraced definition of antisemitism. In Brazil, the province of São Paulo became the second Brazilian province to adopt the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.
