Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh also met his end in Iran. The two men were responsible for the murder of thousands of Jews and Americans. Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei promised "severe punishment" to "the criminal, terrorist Zionist regime." Zahra Billoo, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) San Francisco chapter, wrote, "Tonight, we mourn [Haniyeh] himself but know his martyrdom is not in vain."
Antisemitic vandals targeted a Chabad synagogue and the Jewish Federation in Pittsburgh, PA, near the site of the 2018 Tree of Life synagogue massacre. Six years after the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history perpetrated by a white supremacist, anti-Zionist vandalism targeting Jewish institutions in the same neighborhood underscores the dangers of all forms of antisemitism.
During the Israel-Paraguay soccer match during the Summer Olympics in Paris, Pro-Palestinian fans shouted “Heil Hitler” and gave Nazi salutes. In Canada, vandals targeted synagogues and a Jewish school in both the Toronto and Calgary areas with pro-Hamas expressions such as the inverted red triangle. According to the Canadian police, antisemitic hate crimes are up 71% from last year.
A federal judge ordered the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to formulate a strategy to safeguard its Jewish students following a lawsuit against the school filed by three Jewish students. An anti-Israel group at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee threatened Hillel and Jewish Federation on Instagram, writing, "Any organization [on campus] that has not separated themselves from Israel will be treated accordingly as extremist criminals."
