Petition

Dear Cabinet Secretary, Governors, Elected officials, Superintendents, School Administrators, and Educators,

We, the undersigned, come together with deep concerns about the proliferation of radical ethnic studies curricula in K-12 education. These curricula, which originated in California and are now spreading to other states and regions, promote anti-American values and perpetuate divisive narratives that undermine the principles of unity, tolerance, and inclusivity that our nation holds dear.

Specifically, we are alarmed by the prevalent use of the oppressor/oppressed paradigm within these curricula. By falsely labeling Jews and Israel as colonialist oppressors, these curricula advance harmful stereotypes and propagate a distorted view of history. Such misrepresentations not only undercut the rich cultural heritage of Jewish communities but also breed hostility and hatred towards Israel, a valued ally and a vibrant democracy in the Middle East.

We firmly believe that education should foster curiosity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. Instead of promoting divisive ideologies, we call for alternative approaches to ethnic studies that provide a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of the complex histories of the people who make up our nation.

To this end, we are attaching an alternative curriculum that offers a balanced perspective. This curriculum fosters an inclusive learning environment that encourages exploration of multiple viewpoints and celebrates the contributions of various communities to the American story. It is designed to teach students about the rich tapestry of cultures in our nation without perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

We urge you to take action to oppose the implementation of radical ethnic studies curricula that promote anti-Americanism and misrepresent Jews and Israel. We implore you to support the development and adoption of educational materials that foster inclusivity and respect for all communities.

By signing this petition, we stand united in our commitment to ensuring that our children receive an education that promotes understanding and respect for diverse ways of life while upholding the core values that define our nation.

By signing our petition, you can make a powerful statement in support of inclusive education that celebrates diversity and rejects the propagation of hate.

THE CHALLENGE TO LIBERALISM IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY

Americans have work to do in curtailing racism and inequality. We must undertake this work, however, in a spirit of intellectual honesty and integrity. Critical Social Justice—the idea that there are hidden systems of oppression in America and that only marginalized people have the standing to define them—is a rising phenomenon in the organized Jewish community. It tends to stifle alternative views and prevents due consideration of such issues as racial justice and gender identity. Absent a balanced discussion, CSJ can corrupt the core values of many institutions and lead to cultures that restrict free thought.  Such absolutist sentiment is a threat to the country and the Jewish community, and fans the flames of antisemitism.

PROMOTING BALANCED DISCOURSE WITH THE JEWISH INSTITUTE FOR LIBERAL VALUES (JILV)

JILV Square

JILV serves as a platform for fostering constructive conversations within the Jewish community about Critical Social Justice (CSJ). With mixed responses to CSJ within the Jewish world, JILV aims to enable, empower, and equip Jews who support liberalism and oppose the imposition of CSJ. Our goal is to raise awareness in mainstream Jewish organizations about the complexities of social justice, encourage thoughtful deliberation, and prevent the dominance of a single ideology in Jewish civic culture. Through education and advocacy, we seek to build a strong counter-movement, highlighting the dangers of imposing CSJ and its connection to new forms of anti-Zionism and antisemitism.
